Man Arrested after Attempting to Dump Body in River Thames

A man have been arrested on suspicion of murder after he was allegedly caught trying to dispose of a body by throwing it into the River Thames at Deptford Wharf.

Police were called to the east London wharf shortly before 3am (21 November) to a report that a man was trying to dump a body in the Thames.Officers responding to the call subsequently stopped a car in nearby Evelyn Street. The body of a man, aged in his 20s, was found in the car

London Ambulance Service arrived at the scene but the man, who is thought to have been killed atan address in Thornton Heath, south London, was pronounced dead at the scene. A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said, “It appears to be what we would term a domestic incident. It seems they were all known to each other.”

The driver of the car, a man in his fifties, was arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody at a south London police station. A woman was arrested at an address in Thornton Heath on the morning of 21 November in connection with the incident.The murder investigation has begun, led by Detective Chief Inspector Diane Tudway of the Homicide and Major Crime Command.

A spokesman said, “Police were called shortly before 3am on Friday to a report of a man believed to be attempting to put a body in the Thames at Deptford Wharf in SE8. Officers responding to the call subsequently stopped a car in nearby Evelyn Street. The body of a man, aged in his 20s, was found in the car. Next of kin have not been informed. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course. The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody at a south London police station.”
