Tim Speed, 31, from Sheffield, was driving down Miller Street in Manchester at 1pm to do some Christmas shopping with his children and wife Kelly when he made the harrowing discovery.
He told, “As we drove past I noticed what looked like a person lying down behind the bush. My first thought was that someone was drunk, or that it was a homeless person so we drove on. But it started playing on my mind so I asked my wife to turn the car around and we stopped to take a proper look. As I walked over to him I was thinking it must have been a prank – but once I got there I could see he was totally gone. His body was stiff and he had quite a lot of bruising across the side of his face. I was terrified and called the paramedics straight away. He seemed to be quite broad and muscular. The paramedics said he might have been attacked. I couldn’t believe that he’d been there for so long and no one found him because there were loads of people walking past around that time.”

Mr Speed was interviewed by police and will be contacted by GMP detectives in a few days, to allow him time to recover from the ordeal.
He said officers are trying to establish the identity and are in the early stages of investigating the death.
A large police presence remained at the scene on Saturday evening, with a cordon surrounding a piece of grassed land next to the CIS building.
Earlier, shopper Deborah Brotherson said, ‘We read it in the Manchester Evening News in town and can’t believe it. We walked right past that bush this morning. It’s just horrible.”

Passerby Katie Gates added, “It’s not something you expect to come across on a Saturday, there are lots of kids around too. It’s sickening.”
