Charlotte Richards’s baby, Beatrix, who failed to breath for 23 minutes at the cutoff point, and the mother, was totally disgusted. But one of the doctors incited a last attempt to save her because she took back him to his own daughter. At the last moment the little one coughed and her body spluttered back to life.
After they’d been working on her for 15 minutes, I’d pretty much given up hope. But, after 23 minutes, this one consultant said they should try just once more – and it worked, said Mrs. Richards.
‘Afterwards, he told me that something about her reminded him of his own daughter and he had decided not to give up. It’s a miracle really’ she added.
Mrs. Richards gave a water birth at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex. But the baby had perinatal asphyxia after a placental bleed. The condition results in baby being rundown of oxygen and habitually causes brain damage or death.
Four days after she was born, for the first time, her parents were allowed to hold her .Since ten weeks the baby is at home and in good health.
