South Yorkshire Street Evacuated as Explosives are Found at House

 A 55 year old man has been arrested and about 50 homes have been evacuated after explosives were found at a house in South Yorkshire.Residents who were evacuated from the area have been given shelter at the nearby Mexborough Day Centre until they are able to return to their homes by Doncaster Council.

A police said that the man had been arrested on suspicion of possessing explosives for an unlawful purpose.A 330ft cordon has been established around a property in Chestnut Grove, Mexborough, and army bomb disposal units and firefighters are on the scene.Kathryn Pearson, who lives on Elm Road within the affected area, said, “At 10 this morning the policeman putting the tape up told me I had to evacuate my house for up to 24 hours. It must be something serious but obviously it’s frustrating for me.”
