Story of a Boxing Ring Proposal

A boxing ring may not sound like a good place for making marriage proposals. But two boxers Adrian Firkins and Ricky Welsby, proposed to their girlfriends in the middle of the boxing ring.
Friends Adrian Firkins, 44, and 24-year-old Rick Welsby came face to face in a lightweight match at the Copthorne Hotel in Dudley, West Midlands, and after three rounds the match was declared a draw.
After the match, Debbie Tyler, 41 (Adrian’s girlfriend) and Nikki Vyse, 22 (Ricky’s girlfriend) was called by promoter Peter Jackson into the ring. The ladies were under the impression they were simply going to pose with their bruised boyfriends.
But the wounded pair then stunned their girlfriends by dropping down onto their knees – after managing to stay on their feet for the entire fight – in order to pop the question. While the audience clapped and cheered, the two men produced boxes containing engagement rings. The ladies said ‘yes’ as they received a standing ovation from the crowd.
Both boxers agreed that they were far more nervous about the proposal than the fight, which concluded in a draw. Father-of-two Adrian, from Halesowen, West Midlands, told the Daily Mail: ‘I’m glad I got through it and didn’t get knocked out, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to propose to Debbie.’ Ricky, was the one who planned to propose to his girlfriend and Adrian decided to join him.
