A mother of three has converted her shed into a luxurious mini mansion for under £1000. Sonia Walker from Rushton in Northamptonshire created the retreat to escape her male dominated household.

The shed was originally built by her husband for her 50th birthday present, but Sonia is lavishly decorated the whole shed by buying bargains from charity shops and car boot sales.

Now Sonia can escape her husband Andrew and sons Bradley, 21, and Ben, 19 and go and sit and chill out with a glass of wine whilst listening to music in her ‘she cave’ located in her back garden.

She said: ‘Our old shed was quite dilapidated so we were looking for a new one but everything I wanted was way out of our price range.

‘Then my husband offered to build me one for my 50th birthday. We really went to town on it but all the while I had upcycling and recycling in mind as I hate waste.

‘In the end the whole thing including the interior cost under £1000. All of the furniture and decor I either bought online or from car boot sales and charity shops. The grandfather clock only cost me £25.

Sonia’s husband Andrew agreed to build the shed for her 50th birthday with construction and interiors amounting to £1000

Sonia says she likes to enjoy a glass of wine in her shed and has her girlfriends over for afternoon tea

‘The most expensive thing was the wooden flooring and the tongue and groove.. I get a real buzz out of upcycling and recycling.’

The bespoke shed features a fireplace, candelabras, a chaise lounge and plenty of ornate pictures, mirrors and ornaments.

Sonia added: ‘I absolutely love my ‘mini mansion.’ It’s my little sanctuary. Me and my girlfriends often have afternoon tea or share a bottle of wine up there. It’s a real girly domain.

‘Andrew and my youngest son both have motorbikes so they could have easily decided to build a shed for their bikes instead but it’s lovely that Andrew has given me my own space, bless him.’
