A Scottish family are recruiting for a £50,000 a year live-in nanny – a job that also comes with a private living space and complimentary food – but one small catch is putting all the applicants off.
Well – it’s not that small. The parents are after a replacement babysitter after losing five workers in just 12 months due to ‘supernatural happenings’ in their historic home, including glass shattering and ‘strange noises’.
The family have enlisted the help of social media on their mission, in the hope they’ll find someone brave enough to take on the challenge at their ‘haunted’ residence in Scotland – and hopefully one that can outlast past employees.
A job ad appeared on Childcare.co.uk last week looking for an au pair who is willing to look after two children, 5 and 7, at the family’s ‘spacious’ house, which also boasts ‘spectacular’ views over the Scottish Borders.
The successful candidate will get a 50,000 salary, anyone willing to brave it can apply online here .
But, you must be willing to spend long periods of time in the house alone, and sleep there four nights a week, Monday through Friday, with the children.
Your role will include preparing breakfast, getting the children ready for school, dropping off and picking up from school and assisting after school, including helping with homework and getting them ready for bed.
On top on the generous wage, you’ll also have your own room, en-suite bathroom and private kitchen area, plus 28 days holiday a year.
The parents have already had a number of nannies approach them for more details, however none have formerly applied for the position, which has been listed on Childcare.co.uk since 29 May.
Childcare.co.uk is a platform which allows parents to search for and connect with babysitters, childminders, nannies, nurseries, private tutors and schools and also allows childcare providers to advertise their services.
Richard Conway, founder of Childcare.co.uk , said: “When we saw the advert we were stunned.
“Some of the guys at HQ were sceptical but after talking to the family and their previous employees we realised it was a genuine position. We have hundreds of thousands of providers on the site and we’re hoping that one of them will be able to help them.
“We’ve had some weird and wonderful families find childcare providers through the site, however I think this is probably the most interesting story we’ve heard.
“The family has assured us that no harm has come to anyone living in the house, however the nanny will have to have a strong disposition!”
