Six Month Old Baby Drowns In Bath While Mom Is Busy Sending Messages On Facebook
A mum spent 20 minutes on Facebook while her six-month-old baby drowned in the bath, police have revealed.
Cheyenne Summer Stuckey, 21, told investigators she left tiny Zayla Hernandez unsupervised in the tub with water running at her home in Reno, Texas.
She told the Parker County Sheriff’s Office she only left the little girl alone for “only a couple minutes.”
The mum then found the tot unresponsive, face-down in the tub.
She told deputies that she tried to resuscitate Zayla but “did not know how,” according to reports.
Stuckey said she became “distracted” by another child after leaving the bathroom and then hopped onto Facebook as a television blared nearby.
At that point, investigators say she realised she had forgotten about her daughter.
A subsequent investigation revealed Stuckey had been on Facebook for at least 18 minutes as the girl was left alone, messaging two people.
The girl was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A preliminary autopsy report ruled that she died from drowning.
Stuckey, whose bond had not yet been set, was charged with injury to a child.
Other children in the home were placed in foster care.
According to a fundraiser set up for the girl’s memorial service, she had four-year-old twin sisters and a two-year-old brother.
