French and Saunders are making their television comeback for the first time in a decade.
Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders made the announcement today and explained their new TV show will be a Christmas special which will mark their 30th anniversary.
Teasing the new material, the comedic duo said they would be sending up “boozing reality TV shows” and hit drama The Handmaid’s Tale.
The show is likely to air on Christmas Day but the BBC – who will transmit the TV special – are staying tight lipped.
Speaking to The Mirror, 59-year-old Dawn teased: “There’s some ¬Handmaid’s Tale in there. We had fun with some of the costumes.”
Jennifer, also 59, continued: “Taking the p*** out of people is a young person’s thing. It can start to look a bit tragic and bitter.”
The pair first launched their successful sketch shows back in 1987 but after their last series in 2007, they have not released any new material.
Dawn said after the stopped working together: “The whole double act is an extension of our friendship, which still remains.
“We will be making each other laugh for ever but just not in front of an audience.”
Now fans will be able to share in more of their genius ideas as they prepare to return to our screens.
Dawn previously hinted she may target boozy reality stars after giving a scathing interview earlier this year.
She told the The Sunday Times: “I am shocked by how they behave.
“These girls are pre-loading with vodka, primping, helping each other get ready.
“You reckon they want to meet someone who would love, cherish and respect them.
“But instead they go out and get utterly hammered and are s****ing in a bush and coming out and going ‘Yes!’ like men.”
