In an interview at the Cornwall Film Festival, the director, Nigel Cole has confirmed without a doubt, that there will be a tenth series.

He said: “There will be a series ten. We’re working on it. It’s official, we are doing it.”

Recently most of the cast got back together for a special project to thank the NHS for all they are doing for us during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Actors Martin Clunes, Caroline Catz, Ian McNeice, Joe Absolom and John Marquez – all reprised their famous roles for a seven minute special which has been shared on Youtube.

In the season finale, which aired in 2019, Doc Martin faced a final assessment by the General Medical Council.

Tom Conti drove to the village to audit Martin to see if his skills in surgery were adequate.

As a result Doc Martin resigned before he could be struck off as he failed. He also found out the he was about to have another child!

With the final episode leaving on a cliff hanger, people were shocked to hear there was a possibility that it could be the last episode.

The series by ITV was set originally for nine series, but Martin Clunes said in the past “That doesn’t necessarily mean there won’t be any more”.
