Residents relocated as a precautionary measure while 100 firefighters tackle blaze at Renshaw industrial estate.
Homes have been evacuated after a major fire broke out on an industrial estate in Surrey. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said the fire broke out shortly after midnight. About 100 firefighters and 20 fire appliances have been tackling the blaze on the Renshaw estate since shortly after midnight on Monday.

The fire has been brought under control and the number of crews scaled back, the fire service said. Specialist officers are expected to remain at the scene for most of the day. Earlier, Surrey Police tweeted the town centre was closed to traffic due to a major fire and urged drivers to avoid the area. Residents have been asked to avoid the area and those nearby are advised to stay indoors with windows and doors closed.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said, ” It has been necessary to put some precautionary measures in place, with a number of residents being evacuated to a local rest centre. The incident is likely to be protracted. Further advice will be issued when necessary if the incident develops. For the time being residents are advised to avoid the area, so emergency services can reach the scene.” BBC Travel reports said the A308 Staines High Street had been closed in both directions since about 03:00 GMT with diversions in operation and bus services also affected.
